NOT TO BE DENIED...was the Lady Bees of Bethel as they pulled away from Mississinawa Valley after struggling early.
February 11, 2008 BROOKVILLE
After a rough start, the Lady Bees of Bethel advanced to the second round of the sectional tournament with a 48-30 win over Mississinawa Valley, Monday.
Bethel, which improved to 10-11 on the season, struggled to find the bottom of the net in the opening frame. But its defensive pressure prevented Mississinawa Valley from getting into its own offensive set on a consistent basis and kept the Bees within one point at the end of the first, 8-7.
The full-court pressure the Lady Bees applied began taking its toll in the second quarter as Mississinawa had difficulty getting the ball past mid-court.
The result was turnover after turnover and Bethel scoring at the other end on lay-ups and short jumpers.
By half time the Lady Bees took a 27-18 lead.
The pressure defense continued giving the Lady Blackhawks fits in the second half as Mississinawa could only score four points in the third and 12 points over the entire second half.
Meanwhile, Bethel's shooters caught fire and pulled away for the 18-point win, 48-30.
Emily Ellerbrock, Brittany Lewis and Kenzie Klingenberg each scored 10 points for Bethel, while Cierra Saintignon led Mississinawa Valley with 8 points.
Mississinawa ends its season with a 3-18 record, while Bethel takes on Covington on Thursday at Brookville High School. The winner will advance to the sectional final on Saturday.
