MIAMI EAST ROLLS BIG OVER SOUTH

A RUNAWAY...was the Miami East Viking's impressive victory over Twin Valley South.

Story by Dwaine Maxson
Miami East came out Friday firing and beat the Twin Valley South Panthers by a suprisingly large margin of 48-7. The Panthers had come into the game with a highly potent offense, but the Vikings managed to hold them to just 7 points on 166 total yards of offense. At the same time the Viking offense rolled up 526 yards rushing on the night.

Miami East's Sam Smallwood started the night by returning the opening kickoff to the Panther 38 yard line. From there the Vikings gradually chipped away at the Panther defense on their first possession. It was capped off by 2 yard touchdown run by Smallwood to put the Vikings up 7-0. Miami East's defense held the Panthers to just a few plays. Then on the Vikings second possession Houston Walker scored on a 66 yard run to them up 14-0. South's offense was again stopped and forced to punt. The Vikings' Zack Fuge then scored on 68 yard run to put the Vikings up 21-0. Then the Panthers' finally managed to score in what turned out to be the only time on the night they managed to score. South's score came when Devin Eisenhour caught a 36 yard pass from Josh Flynn for a touchdown to make the score 21-7. Miami East's Sam Smallwood then scored on the Vikings following possession on a 5 yard run to make the score 28-7 at the end of the first quarter.

The Vikings would score two more times in the second quarter. The first one was on a 4 yard run by Smallwood. South did manage to block the kick which made it 34-7. Then Smallwood again scored later on a 30 yard run to make the score 41-7 goving into halftime.

In the second half Miami East kept running the ball to run down the clock and continued to shut down the Panthers' potent offense. The final score of the game came in the third quarter on a Tyler Dunivan 33 yard run to make it 48-7.

The Vikings finished the night with three 100 yard rushers. Sam Smalllwood was the leading rushing with 140 yards on 19 carries and 4 touchdowns. Tyler Dunivan also had 126 yards on 10 carries and touchown. And Zack Fuge had 133 yards on 4 carries and touchdown.

"We played one of our best games of the season tonight," later commented Viking Coach Max Current. "We knew we could score on them. I am surprised we held them to just 7 points. We thought they would score more based on the film we had seen on them. Our defense did a great job on their assignments, which played big role in stopping their offense. We still have things to work though."

Next Week the Vikings travel to National Trail, while Twin Valley South Travels to Bradford.
