SOUTH WINS ANOTHER THRILLER

CARDIAC KIDS...Josh Flynn and the Twin Valley South Panthers know how to keep fans on the edge of their seats.

If you want to see an exciting football game all you have to do is follow the Twin Valley South Panthers.

On second thought, exciting would be an understatement.

That's because in the Panthers' first four games, three have come down to the last minute and two were decided by one point - last week in an overtime thriller at Mississinawa Valley and Friday night's last second victory over Bethel, 35-34.

In what will likely be a candidate for "Game of the Year", Twin Valley South and Bethel put on an offensive show in the second half - combining for 50 points in the final two quarters.

It was a track meet up and down the field, which fits right into the hands of the Panthers as they have arguably the two fastest players in the conference in Joe Moleski and Josh Flynn.

And did they showcase that speed.

Flynn, who quarterbacks the Panther offense, scored three touchdowns - two on short runs and an 89-yard kickoff return. He also threw for two more - one a 29-yard pass to Moleski and the other a 64-yard pass to Marcus Boyd.

Bethel got on the scoreboard first with a 5-yard pass from John Prior to Curtis Huffman and increased the lead to 12-7 at the half with a 58-yard pass from Prior to Troy Diltz.

The Panther's lone score in the first half came on a 29-yard hookup between Moleski and Flynn.

The Panthers waisted little time to start the second half fireworks as Flynn took the kickoff 89 yards in for the score - finding a seem in the middle and outracing everyone to the end zone.

Bethel responded as Prior connected with Hoffman for the second time - this coming from 47 yards out.

The highlight reel continued as Flynn connected with Boyd from 64 yards away before a nice Bethel drive resulted in a 7-yard run by Ryan Mayes.

Each team would score again as Flynn ran in from 2 yards out for the Panthers and Diltz tossed his fourth touchdown of the game - a 39-yard pass to Prior - to make the score 34-27 and set up a thrilling finish.

With on last chance to keep it's record unbeaten, Twin Valley South moved the ball deep into Bethel territory. With time running off the clock, Flynn found an opening in the Bethel defense and scooted in from 7 yards out to cut the margin to 34-33.

In a gutsy move for the second week in a row, the Panthers decided to go for the win instead of extending the game with a tying kick.

The strategy worked as Flynn - with the Bethel defense draped all over him - connected with Marcus Boyd for the two-point conversion and a 35-34 victory.

The stunning defeat drops Bethel to 1-3 on the season and 1-2 in conference play. The Bees look to get back on the winning trail as they host National Trail next week.

For the Panthers, they improve to 4-0 and look forward to a huge conference showdown with another unbeaten team, Covington.
