TIGERS PULL AWAY FROM TROJANS

HOENING BALL...is what has kept the Ansonia Tigers on track after a season opening loss to Fort Recovery.

It was a battle between two 2-1 teams overall and 2-0 in the conference. Ansonia traveled to Arcanum looking to stay on track for a CCC title run.

Arcanum however had ideas of their own of staying in the race and took little time to show that as on the second play of the game quarterback Kyle Fledderjohn took one to the house from 70 yards and the Trojans went on top 7-0.

Ansonia didn’t appear shell shocked and put together a slow drive that was culminated on a brother duo as Dylan Bubeck hauled in a 25 yard pass from brother Derrick Bubeck for a touchdown. The extra point attempt failed and Arcanum led 7-6.

It was the Trojans turn as they then put together a slow march down the field and four minutes later A.J. Aikman plowed in from 1 yard out, add a Matt Woods extra point and with 1:08 to play Arcanum led 14-6.

It didn’t take the Tigers long to answer as they chewed up big yards on their drive with Ryan Fosnaugh finishing it from one yard out at 9:08 to play. Ansonia’s two-point conversion was run in by Derrick Bubeck to tie the game at 14 each.

Again Arcanum went back to work putting together another nice sustained drive as Senior Quarterback Kyle Fledderjohn finished the job with a 3 yard run up the middle. Another woods extra point moved Arcanum in front again 21-14 with 5:45 to play in the half.

Once again the Tigers of Ansonia maintained their poise and put together another nice drive… finished off by a 1 yard Ryan Fosnaugh run. The Tigers went for a two-point conversion and were successful for the second time again by Derrick Bubeck to give the Tigers their first lead of the game 22-21 which they would take into halftime.

It appeared neither team was going to be able to stop the other team and it was going to come down to who had the ball last… but ironically it was the visiting team who was able to make adjustments at the half.

Arcanum struggled to move the ball in the third quarter and the Tigers continued to move the ball at will as they proceeded to score two straight times. A Brandon Liette 4 yard touchdown was followed by another Fosnaugh touchdown from 2 yards out and with 4 minutes to play in the 3rd quarter Ansonia had jumped out in front 35-21.

The Trojans seemed to wear down and never really were able to get a second wind. Both teams trade scores in the final period. Ryan Fosnaugh scored his 4th touchdown of the game with another 2-yard plunge, while Arcanum made one last scored with time dwindling when Fledderjohn tossed a 5 yard pass to Aikman to finish the scoring.

But on this night it was the second half play of the Tigers who appeared to want it more and rose to the occasion to race past the Trojans for a 42-27 victory as they keep their chances alive in the CCC race at 3-0 in conference play.
