WEEK FIVE RECAP

A WEEK OF BIG PLAYS...several big games saw several big plays, including Friday's contest between Twin Valley South and Covington

Halfway through the season it has become a two-team race for the Cross County Conference Championship as Ansonia and Miami East continue there winning ways.

Both have won four straight games after season opening defeats and both teams are 4-0 in conference play.

Miami East went into Friday's contest with Tri-County North looking to keep the momentum gained from last week's big win over Covington and the Vikings did just that.

Emotionally sparked by the the school honoring the 1965 and 1983 teams who are the school's only conference champions, the 2008 Vikings jumped all over Tri-County North for a 41-0 half time lead and cruised to a 48-19 victory.

With their impressive performances each and every week, the senior laden Vikings appear well on their way for a huge week nine showdown with Ansonia for conference bragging rights.

The Tigers of Ansonia did their part to make that future match-up a possibility by pulling away from Mississinawa Valley for a 40-28 win.

Closely contested throughout, but Ansonia was able to hold off a second half Blackhawks rally and score in the waning moments to preserve the hard-fought win.

Staying in contention with one CCC defeat on their records are Covington and Arcanum after each picked up big wins after suffering losses a week ago.

Arcanum steamrolled through Bradford 54-21 after falling to Ansonia last week. The Trojans high-powered offense have won three of four games and have score 156 points in the four-week span.

The Trojans still have Miami East and Covington on their schedule and wins over those two programs would shake things up at the top of the standings.

Covington responded from last weeks loss to Miami East with a thrilling 32-26 victory over a gritty Twin Valley South team.

It was a game of big plays by both young teams, but Covington made the final big play with Twin Valley South heading in for the winning score at the Buccaneer eight.

Picking up their first win was Bethel as the Bees defeated National Trail, 24-21 on a 25-yard field goal by Cody Hart in the final minute.
