WEEK NINE RECAP

SOME HARD HITTIN' ACTION...took place in week nine as teams had a lot to play for.

We're down to one final week of the 2008 football season and three teams are still in the play-off hunt.

After nine weeks, Miami East remains in the top spot in the CCC standings and has clinched at least a share of the conference title with a come-from-behind 20-14 victory over Ansonia. It's the first league championship for Miami East since 1983 when the Vikings shared the SRC title.

The game was CrossCountyConference.com's "Game of the Week" and it lived up to the billing as Ansonia stormed to a 14-0 lead in the waning moments of the first half.

Championships are earned and Miami East earned this one by scoring 20 unanswered points and holding off two Tiger attempts in the red zone to preserve the victory.

Despite the loss, Ansonia is still in the play-off hunt, but needs a victory in week ten at Twin Valley South to have any chance of playing in week eleven.

Miami East can earn the league championship outright in week ten on its home field with a victory over Arcanum, which won't be easy.

The Trojans are 6-3 overall and 6-2 in the CCC after a convincing 39-6 victory over Tri-County North on Friday as quarterback Kyle Fedderjohn continued his memorable senior campaign with another impressive performance.

With Fedderjohn and A.J. Aikman leading the Trojan ground attack behind an improved offensive line, Miami East will need to be on top of its game to secure a play-off birth with a win.

Covington is hoping for a win in week ten over Bethel and a Trojan victory over Miami East. This would give the Buccs a share of the league title and momentum heading into the play-offs - something a Buccaneer team has accomplished nine times in the past ten years. The only season since 1998 Covington has failed to earn at least a share of the CCC title and a play-off spot was in 2004.

The Buccs escaped Mississinawa Valley with a 14-6 victory Friday night thanks to two goal-line stands and an interception in the final moments. With a 7-2 overall record (7-1 in the CCC) and a five-game win streak, the Buccaneers are looking forward to the second season should they take care of business against Bethel, who defeated Bradford 19-18 on Friday.

Bradford is still looking for its first win after suffering some heartbreaking losses. The Railroaders hope to get that win on Friday as they travel to National Trail.

The Blazers are also looking for their first win after a 63-44 loss to Twin Valley South.

There's a lot to play for in the final week of the regular season as teams position themselves for conference championships, play-off spots and momentum for next season.
