STILL IN IT...are four CCC teams including Kyler Fedderjohn and the Arcanum Trojans who defeated Bethel on Friday and still play Covington and Miami East over the next three weeks.
It was a big week seven for the Miami East Vikings as Coach Current and his boys found themselves alone at the top of the conference standings at 6-1 overall and 6-0 in the CCC.
Going into the weekend the Vikings shared the top spot with Ansonia and the senior laden Vikings took care of business with a convincing 69-26 victory over Twin Valley South (3-4 overall, 3-3 in the CCC).
Ansonia appeared to be on its way to a victory over Covington as it held a 27-14 lead midway through the third quarter. But 21 unanswered Buccaneer points went on the board as Covington handed Ansonia a 35-27 defeat.
There is now a three-way tie for second in the CCC standings as Covington, Ansonia and Arcanum all stand at 5-2 overall and 5-1 in the CCC.
This makes things interesting in the final three weeks of the season as Miami East still plays Ansonia and Arcanum and Covington and Arcanum hook up next week.
The Trojans from Arcanum stayed on course with a 47-21 victory over Bethel (1-6 overall and 1-5 in the CCC). Victories over Covington next week and Miami East in week ten would shake up the conference standings and perhaps put Arcanum into the play-offs.
Tri-County North captured its third win of the season at National Trail, 41-22. The Panthers now stand at 3-4 overall and 3-3 in the CCC, while the Blazers are still looking for their first win at 0-7 overall and 0-6 in the CCC.
In arguably the most exciting game of the weekend, Mississinawa Valley outlasted a much improved Bradford team, 22-18. The Blackhawks improve to 3-4 overall and 2-4 in the CCC while the Railroaders are still looking to get into the win column at 0-7 overall and 0-6 in the league standings.
Its shaping up to be an exciting final three weeks of the season as four teams are still alive for a share of the CCC title and play-off births. With the youth throughout much of the conference, having something to play for late in the season will only make the CCC stronger as those teams with young rosters will return kids with big-game experience next season.
