BETHEL GETS BIG WIN AT MIAMI EAST

4-0 IN THE CCC...is where Micheal James and the Bethel Bees stand after a 50-44 win over Miami East.

DECEMBER 18, 2009 - CASSTOWN
The Bethel Bees captured a 50-44 road win over Miami East on Friday night to remain unbeaten in league play.

Leading the way for the Bees was Scott Mason with a team-high 12 points. Bethel also received 9 points each from Jon Sutton and Ben Schwieterman.

Miami East was led by Tyler Dunivan with a game-high 15 points and received 9 points from Josh Snyder in a losing effort.

The host Vikings jumped out to a 5-0 lead on a bucket by Evan Wolf and a trey by Justin Hershberger, but Bethel clawed its way back to eventually take its first lead of the game 10-9 on a layup by Scott Masin.

Bethel extended the lead to 15-11 later in the frame, but Miami East ran off five straight points on a Tyler Dunivan basket and a three-pointer by Josh Snyder at the buzzer.

Snyder opened the second quarter with his second trey of the contest and an Evan Wolf basket gave Miami East its largest lead of the contest, 21-15.

Bethel then outscored the Vikings 11-3 over the remainder of the half to claim a 26-24 lead at the break.

Neither team could get much offense going in the early stages of the third quarter, but the contest heated up after a Gunner Shirk basket gave Miami East a 33-31 lead with just under 3:00 left in the frame.

Sutton and Schwieterman captured the momentum for Bethel on back-to-back three-pointers and a Daniel Yates bucket increased the margin to 39-33.

Snyder responded for Miami East with his third three-pointer of the contest, but Yates closed out the third with the lay in to give Bethel a 41-36 lead with one quarter to play.

The final quarter started with a pair of buckets for each team before Bethel followed with two baskets by Schwieterman and a free throw from Masin to take a 50-40 lead with under 2:00 left.

Miami East attempted to get back into the contest, but could only manage two free throws and a Tyler Dunivan basket as the final score read 50-44 in favor of the visitors.

The Vikings will look back and point to missed opportunities at the free throw line as they only converted on 4 of 10 in the fourth quarter and 7 of 14 for the game.

Bethel also struggled from the charity stripe, converting on only 6 of 11 in the contest.

The victory improves Bethel 5-1 overall and 4-0 in the CCC and sets up a big showdown with Covington on Tuesday.

Miami East drops to 3-2 overall and 1-2 in conference play. The Vikings travel to Ansonia on Tuesday.
