SCORING EARLY AND OFTEN..is what the Vikings of Miami East did in building a 35-0 lead before winning 35-12.

The Vikings won 35-13 Friday night knocking the Blackhawks out of the ranks of the unbeaten. Miami East pounded the ball offensively with their hard running game. Defensively their first string defense shut down Mississinawa Valley’s offense for the first quarters.

After receiving the opening kickoff the Vikings would again score on their opening possession with a 7 play 58 yard drive. Tyler Dunivan capped it off with an 11 yard touchdown run. Then later on East’s second possession they managed a quick three play scoring drive that included a big 24 yard gain by Brady McMaken. Dunivan again capped it off with a 14 yard touchdown run. The Vikings would later manage one more scoring drive in the opening quarter with a 72 yard 5 play drive. The key plays on the drive were 34 pass from Dalton Saylor to Tyler Dunivan, and runs of 19 and 16 yards by Kyle Noe. Dunivan finished it with his third and final touchdown of the night on a 3 yard run.

Miami East would get two more scoring a drives, one each, in both the second and third quarters. Kyle Noe scoring both of their final two touchdowns on runs of 3 and 5 yards.

In the fourth quarter the Blackhawks finally managed some offense and got both of their scores. The first on a 12 yard pass from Trent Heitkamp to Colton Cox for a touchdown. The final one being an one yard touchdown run by Greston Landess.

“We played well tonight. We ran the ball well offensively and our first string defense played well. Although we still have things to work on,” said Viking Coach Max Current after the game.

The Vikings finished the night with two 100 yard rushers. Tyler Dunivan with 154 yards on 15 carries and Kyle Noe with 123 yards on 18 carries.

Next week Miami East (2-1, 2-0) travels to Bethel, while Mississinawa Valley (2-1, 1-1) hosts Twin Valley South.
