It was an outstanding weekend for the Cross County Conference as 19 wrestlers qualified for the district tournament by placing in the top four of their respective weight classes at the sectional tournament at Covington High School.

Covington had six qualifiers, while Arcanum and Miami East had four each, Three Tri-County North wrestlers qualified as did two from National Trail.

Miami East finished fifth in the team standings with 120.50 points as Zane Goldberg led the way with a sectional title at 125 pounds, knocking off top seed Powlos Campbell in the finals, 5-2. Joining Goldberg at Districts are Chris Heiss (2nd at 112 lbs.), Garrett Harris (2nd at 135 lbs.) and Jon Wright (3rd at 152 lbs.).

Covington had 112.50 team points, good for sixth place. Matt Breisch (119 lbs.) and Andrew DeHart (145 lbs.) paced the Buccs with second place finishes, while Jake Jennings took third at 160 lbs. Covington had three wrestlers qualify for districts with fourth place finishes, Sam Angle (125 lbs.), Josh McMillion (152 lbs.) and Josh Shefbuch (189 lbs.).

Arcanum finished seventh in the team standings with 98.00 points and had three wrestlers finish with sectional runner-up. They were Josh Stone (171 lbs.), John Sullenberger (189 lbs.) and Sam Pankratz (215 lbs.). Jared Beatty rounds out the district qualifiers for the Trojans with a fourth place finish at 112 lbs.

Tri-County North, which finished with 71 team points, saw Jake Huffman (112 lbs.) and Todd Delong (285 lbs.) claim third and Dylan Dudley taking fourth at 140 lbs. Huffman fell just short of reaching the championship final, losing a 6-4 decision to Chris Heiss of Miami East in the waning moments. Dudley nearly pulled off a major upset in his semi-final match with Zac Hancock of Troy Christian as he had the top seeded wrestler on his back early in the match.

National Trail finished with 36 team points and saw Caleb Webster reach the finals at 130 pounds, only to fall to top seed Jordan Wilson of Dixie. Webster will be joined at districts by teammate Tyler Drew, who took fourth at 135 pounds.
