The Bradford Railroaders went into DeGraff looking to make a statement that they were a team to be reckoned with in 2005. The task was a tough one as on the other side of the field stood a team that finished 8-2 a year ago and reached the state playoffs.
When the dust settled, the Railroaders walked off the filed with a 28-7 win over Riverside, much to the delight of the Bradford faithful who made the long drive to support the orange and black.
One of the main reasons for Bradford's convincing win was junior Skie Abney. Number 22 scored all four Railroader touchdowns on the night.
Out of football last season, Abney returned to spark the Railroaders with 125 rushing yards on 17 carries. One of his scores came on a 30-yard touchdown run.
Abney was also a viable receiving target for the Railroaders as he caught touchdown passes from quarterback Aaron Frantz from 17 and 11 yards out.
As if his offensive performance wasn't enough, Skie turned in a dominating defensive effort as well. Abney recorded the play of the game as he intercepted a Riveside pass and returned the ball 30 yards.
Congratulations to the Bradford Railroaders for their big win and to Skie Abney for being selected as our "Athlete of the Week".
