"I'd like to get back to Columbus (for the state track meet) and make it to the second day (the finals)," said Kimmel at the Covington Invitational. "I'd also like to break the school record in the 400 (meter run)."

Kimmel is well ahead of his pace of a year ago as far as his times dropping on a consistent basis. This past weekend he ran a season-best time of 50.50 to capture the conference title in the 400 despite horrible weather conditions. The only time Kimmel ran a faster time was at the state meet a year ago when he ran a personal best of 50.47 and that was in near perfect weather conditions.

"My times are ahead of what I was running last year at this time," continued Kimmel. "If I can keep cutting my time down I think I can do well at state and hopefully get the school record."

The school record in the 400 has stood for 22 years as Kelly Deeter ran a 49.8 time in 1984. Nobody in Covington history has come close other than Kimmel.

The 6'4" senior hasn't been just a one-race wonder either. He also took first in the 200 meter run this past weekend with a time of 23.50 and placed second in the 100 with a time of 11.5. Kimmel is also a member of the 4x400 meter relay team.
