Covington's Seth Mohler put together a defensive performance for the ages by tying a school record with 4 interceptions in the Buccs' 47-13 win over rival Bradford Friday night.
The only other Buccaneer to pick off four passes in one game was legendary Brad Barker way back in 1965. Barker's thefts came against Northeastern in what ended as a 9-1 season for Covington...the same record the 2005 version has compiled in ten games.
Mohler's heroics came on the same night fellow Buccaneer, Gene Studebaker set a single-game record with 345 rushing yards and a single season rushing record with 1645 yards. On any other week Studebaker would likely have earned "Athlete of the Week" honors, but Mohler tied a record that stood for 40 years.
Plus, Mohler has overcome such adversity this season, which nearly ended for the junior before it got started.
In the final scrimmage against yearly powerhouse Versailles, Mohler suffered a leg injury doing what he does best...picking off passes.
Seth set out for the first six weeks and finally returned with limited duty against Ansonia.
He then had a breakout game as a receiver against Arcanum by scoring on two receptions, including the game-tying catch, which set up the winning two-point conversion by Studebaker.
Last week Mohler also hauled in a big reception, this time the game-winner against Bethel.
But, his biggest impact was this past Friday night against Bradford as Mohler took his first interception 21 yards for the score. He then picked off three more by games end, including one on a fake punt attempt by Bradford.
For his outstanding performance, Covington's Seth Mohler is our "Athlete of the Week".
