If Bethel's Tony Phillips doesn't have a nick name, a good one may be the "Killer Bee". That's because he has been just that to virtually every opponent this season in leading the Bees to an 8-4 record.
The Bees basketball had a big weekend with wins over Newton and Milton Union. A big reason for their success was due to the play of Phillips.
Friday against conference rival Newton, Phillips and company gained a 63-56 win. Phillips came up big down the stretch by scoring eight points in the final stanza and finished with a team high 17 points. Six of Phillip's eight points in the stanza came at the free throw line as he connected on all six attempts.
On Saturday Phillips torched the nets for 29 points in a 64-49 win over the Bulldogs of Milton. Phillips set the tone in the first half with three treys to spark a 40-26 half time lead. He ended up with four treys on the night as the Bees improved to 8-4 on the season.
Bethel stands at 6-1 in the Cross County Conference and is within striking distance of Covington and Tri-Village as each team still plays one another down the stretch.
