COVINGTON'S...GENE STUDEBAKER
CCC Track...
Game of the Week...
Athlete of the Week...
Through the Lens...
Junior quarterback Gene Studebaker is to the Covington Buccaneers what Michael Vick is to the Atlanta Falcons. He's quick, fast, strong, and capable of scoring from anywhere on the field...and he can do it with his arm as well as his legs.

Studebaker, who now has over 1,000 rushing yards on the season, had a hand (of leg) in all four of Covington's touchdowns in Friday's thrilling 30-28 victory over previously unbeaten Arcanum. He scored on runs of 20 yards and 7 yards, and also through for two scores to fellow junior Seth Mohler.

The first scoring toss came from 46 yards out after Arcanum tied the score at 8-8 late in the second period. To that point Covington had struggled getting much going on offense, but the touchdown strike gave the Buccs a 16-8 lead and momentum going into the half.

The second touchdown pass will go down as one of the biggest throws in Covington history as Studebaker connected with Mohler from 7 yards out to ties the score at 28-28 with 1:04 left on the clock.

As big as the tying touchdown was, the next play Studebaker made was even bigger. He converted on the two-point conversion on the option play to give Covington the 30-28 win. It was Gene's second two-point conversion of the night.

On the night, Studebaker accounted for 232 of Covington's 305 yards of total offense. He ran for 171 yards on 21 carries and passed for 61 yards. To top it off, Studebaker accounted for 28 of Covington's 30 points by either running or throwing.

For his memorable performance, Gene Studebaker is our "Athlete of the Week".
