PHOTO: The Bethel boys and girls track teams had a memorable evening at Twin Valley South.
The temperature rose and records fell at the Fred Durkle Invitational at Twin Valley South on Thursday as the Bethel boys track team captured first and the Bethel girls took second out of fifteen schools competing.
Two CCC performers broke meet records as Bethel freshman Kylie Kopp took first in the 100 meter run with a time of 12.8 second and Covington freshman Renee Otte won the long jump with a distance of 16.7.
Kopp was dominating throughout the meet by also capturing first in the 200 meter run (27.0) and second in the ling jump (16-6.25). She also anchored the Lady Bees' 4x 400 team to a first place finish with a time of 52.4.
Kopp wasn't the only Bethel performer to have a big meet. Dillon Brown took first in the 110 hurdles in a time of 15.9.
The Bees 4x800 team of Martin Shoultz, Jesse Masin, Curt Throckmorton and Chad McCarty took first in a time of 8:54.
Many other CCC performers captured first in individual events as well, including Covington's Dusty Kimmel, who won the 400 in 53.0. Kimmel is a returning state qualifier in the 400 and looks to make a return trip this year.
Also, the Tri-County North girls won the 4x800 relay, Brook Strayer of Arcanum win the 300 meter hurdles, Allison Wiseman of Franklin Monroe took first in the 3200 meter run and Arcanum's Angie Cates won two events, the 800 meter run and the 1600 meter run. Twin Valley South's Kate McCollum won the high jump and Jesse Simpson captured the boys discuss.
